YUVRAJ
SINGH
WORLD CHAMPION
INDIAN CRICKET TEAM
At the 2007 World Twenty20, Yuvraj hit six sixes in an over against
England's Stuart Broad - a feat only performed three times previously
in any form of senior cricket, and never previously in an international
match between two Test cricket nations.
Yuvraj reached the fastest fifty ever in Twenty20 game, off just
12 balls and also the fastest in any form of international cricket.
This was the fourth time that six sixes had been hit in one over
in senior cricket, the first time in Twenty20 cricket, and the first
time in any form of international cricket against a bowler from
a test playing nation.
Yuvraj also hit the longest six of the tournament:119 meters and
currently is the world's leading 20-20 batsman in terms of strike
rate (235.09)
Yuvraj was awarded a Porsche 911 car for his 6 sixes achievement
by the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI), and received Rs.10,000,000 (US $ 252,716) in cash from the
BCCI for his splendid performance in the tournament.
Yuvraj
also scored 70 runs off 30 balls and went on to claim the Man of

Durban. |

It's
in the books. 11:30am local time, July 11- Jordan Romero age
10 of Big Bear Lake, California has climbed to the top of
Europe. It took Jordan only 26 hours, which included a 13
hour acclimatization camp, to round trip the massive 18,498'
(5642m) mountain of the Casucasus Mountains on the Russia
and Georgia border. "Three down, five to go... I can't
believe we did this today," Jordan says as he plopped
himself down onto the peak which was not much bigger than
a picnic table. With wind blowing at 50mph/80mph Jordan layed
face down for a few minutes taking in all that he had accomplished
before coming to tears of joy. With the extreme cold of temps
at minus 25c /-10f plus windchill our visit was not long lasting.
Our video camera froze immediately but we mangaged some still
photos. |

During
the 2007 lifeguard season, Beach Safety Director Gary Wise was often
seen kayaking and surfing along the beaches of South Walton. He
wasn’t goofing-off, he was training for the inaugural Causeway
to Causeway 22 Mile Challenge held on Oct. 20 on the Indian River
in Cocoa, Fla.
The
event, sponsored by the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame Museum,
had 23 participants using paddle boards, stand up paddle boards
and surfboats. A release issued by organizers of the event stated,
“the overcast and rainy conditions helped to keep the heat
down, however the 10 to 12 knot headwind back home made the going
tough.”
Wise
was first in stand up paddle board, or SUP division, finishing in
6 hours, 9 minutes. He was 45 minutes ahead of the second place
finisher, Mike Metzger of Key Largo.
“To
the best of our knowledge, this is the longest paddle event of this
type ever held in Florida and possibly the East Coast,” ECSHFM
Paddleboard Race Committee member John Hughes said. “Wise
set the standard for SUPs.”
“He
set his mind to do it,” said Jeff Archer, a local business
owner. “He paddled every day for months to prepare.”
Archer and business partner Tom Losee sell stand up paddle boards
at Yellowtail Trading Company in South Walton.
Wise
used a stock board, one that was designed for recreation, not competition.
“It’s a lot harder to use,” he said.
While
Archer saw Wise’s participation in the event as a way to promote
his product, he also saw it as an opportunity to praise Wise and
his efforts to bring a lifeguard program to South Walton.
“For
our county, he has been a real asset. He understands that there
is a growing water community here,” Archer said. “The
water culture here is in its infancy,” Wise said. “There’s
a core group that surfs, but no one is trying to build the next
generation of watermen.”
With
one win in SUP competition, Wise is already training for 2008. Next
year he plans to race in the East Coast championship again and competitions
in California and Hawaii.
